Vitiligo is Beautiful

I empower people living with vitiligo and albinism by providing them with incentives that help to enrich their lives and enable them to fulfill their purpose
... is the number of people living with vitiligo in Kenya
... only amongst them have ready access to health facilities
2 in every 5
...are marginalized or bullied due to this condition
... people worldwide are affected by the condition

What is It

Vitiligo (pronounced vit-ill-eye-go) is a skin disorder in which melanocytes, the cells responsible for pigmentation, are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. Similar patches may also appear on both the mucous membranes (tissues that line the inside of the mouth and nose), and the retina (inner layer of the eyeball). The hair that grows on areas affected by vitiligo may also turn white.

Having been affected by this condition through my teenage to adulthood, I seek to raise awareness about the condition and help to connect those affected to health facilities within their locality.

"...I accept myself and smile, one patch at a time...."

By engaging and collaborating with people who understand the disease best through own experiences, I have managed to spread awareness to most parts of the country and gathered their stories here to encourage and inspire you.

I have been fortunate enough to get media coverage as well as help from well wishers to distribute sunscreen and informational material to other people living with my condition. Learn where I have been and where I will be next here.
